Katakolo is a coastal town with a rich history that nature has generously given many of its beauties. It is picturesque with intense traditional color .Today, Katakolo welcomes in its port visitors giving many options for pleasant holidays. It is located near the ruins of ancient Phias while its entrance is dominated by the old raisin warehouses that were then used to store the raisins which were carried by ships to the western areas. The port of Katakolo was built in the 19th century for the export of raisins to Europe and at the same time and for the same reason the railway line to Pyrgos was built in order to transport the products faster than the rest regions of Ilia .This was the first railway line that operated in Greece .Today the buildings of the raisin warehouses have been restored and have been converted into cafes and taverns. Over Katakolo the location of Agios Andreas and pontikokastro stand proudly to remind us of its rich history.
